Hold me in your heart when all else goes;
My memory, when daylight disappears
As soft as sun, as formless as the snows
Like rain across the emptiness, or tears
Remember me remotely in your heart
Pretend your mind pretends that it forgot;
When lost friends bleed across the page, apart
And loneliness seems ever your
black lot;
Remember me, who watched you from afar
Who made an idol of your sky-blue eyes
And challenged nature to your beauty mar
And thought you, in my foolish fancy, wise
Remember me, when loves you've lost are far across the letheward sea.
They manned the sheets with you, it's true, but God!- I wrote you poetry.
