Raining Paint

It rained paint today
thick as soup
I used your office
and to the rhythm of
great crimson splats ate lunch
. . . since you ask. . .
I had marginalia as a matter of fact
chewed through the inked asterisks
and remarks in your day timer
I needed a cup of coffee to
swallow your indelible misdemeanors
.. . and yes...
I choked on the blonde bones
of my best friend's phone number
. . .it was then. . .
the window pane ran jade-green
over its sills splattered
on the pavement ..and yes.. .my tears
collected in a oily blood-red puddle
on the florist's number
cloudbursts of indigo
soaked the list you made...
Monday flight, 'reserve two seats
3pm' checked in red
3-day convention underlined
brackets in jet-black
..the oddest thing...
everything tasted like dry orange sand
but it kept raining heavy black drops
that didn't stop me taking our son
to his dental appointment
. . . yes I saw you had cancelled it. . .
.. .no. .. I won't be meeting
your plane tomorrow...
I had lunch today remember?
Read your day timer
It was a suede-leather tragedy
coil bound and small enough to fit in my purse
if it ever stops raining
