Kisses and Popsicles Spring Poetry Contest

2007 - First Place Winner: Nahannee Gillett

Untitled

Your house is full of lonely wanderers.
They move, like unspoken whispers
between cold walls and open spaces
never fully betraying their presence.

But I feel them brush by
with passing glances and trailing
hands and their indistinct conversations. . .
so strikingly familiar.

Subdued footsteps on creaking floors
and not quite muted emotions - tears, laughter,
and passion - so common to this place;
it is as if they are part of the foundation.

Without your presence,
this puzzle is unfinished,
the play is without its leading lines,
and the story is incomplete.
A noticeable distraction.

There is a lacking that creates these wanderers,
these spirits of wanderlust,
these drifters of lacuna.

The lacking is you.

These apparitions are simply chimeras,
my imagination.
Our memories.
And they beseech you to return.

Porque, te necesito conmigo... *

(* Because I need you with me)
