As One Who Loved Me
I remember disappearing into a landscape
luminous and mute as a transparency, leaves
hanging heavy as scimitars. Then, a darkening
of distant dry grass, a wave rolling towards me.
And suddenly all around whisperings,
sighings, clickings, dancing leaves, tinkling crickets.
Invisible fingers brushed my cheek, gently,
as one who loved me, and the earth
pushed up against the soles of my feet.
