2004 Children's Scholarship Winner: Connor Mcnamee

My name is Connor Mcnamee. I have a brother, two dogs and three cats. I love poetry, I feel very expressive through it. I also love music and basketball. In my free time I write poetry, read and lots of other activities. (Connor was eleven when we selected him for the Pandora's Collective Scholarship Award. Congratulations Connor!)

Light

I’m alone
isolated
in dark.
No light
all I can
do is dream
and wait
hope for light
but hope is
faith, faith
that has no
answers. But
then suddenly
it sprouts through
the cracks. Now
pouring through
a door opens.
It has a name.
Its name is God.
It’s the light
of my heart
and Sin.

Why?

Why War?
Why Death?
Why anger and corruption?
Why are people shooting and killing?
People are just bugin!
I’ll tell you why!
It’s mankind!
Say’n I’m God!
“I can take life
Break Life
Make Life”
But they don’t know
that’s not the way.
In the words of Marvin Gay
“War is not the answer.”
So I ask you why?
Come on I’m waiting.
Tell ME!
That’s Right there’s
No Answer.
