did you know the birds bum
just like the modem martyrs
an old woman told me that
she noticed birds, featherless birds
littering the window ledges and doorsteps
swept into gutters with the dust
that came out of nowhere and will not settle
did you know a broken spirit
is a terrible weapon
she told me, the word for battleground has changed
now it is staircase, rooftop, train, and office tower
she told me America was learning
the broken languages and catching up with
the history of the world
