Daniela Elza
Daniela
Elza has always loved tinkering with words, both to the pleasure and
sometimes frustration of her family and friends.
Having lived on three continents and crossed numerous geographical and cultural
boarders, Daniela attempts to bridge gaps, not the least of which are those
between academia and "the real world," and between the heart and the mind. This
has led her on a journey of metaphoric exploration.
Daniela's work has been published in Existere, Room of One's Own, Quills,
Paideusis, The Capilano Review, The Arabesque Review, and Contemporary Verse 2.
She is a three time winner in Pandora's Collective Poetry 2006/2007 contests,
and got an Honorable mention in the Surrey International Writer's Poetry 2006
contest.
Daniela lives in Vancouver with
her husband and two children and is currently working on two collections of
poems.

Selected Poem:
Suddenly Leaves
Letting go
of serrated edges
after the rain, stretched flat
on unfamiliar pavement
leaves bleed themselves
into sidewalks, turning
their webbed essence
concrete.
Love, she used to think,
had something to do
with making him a cup of tea
on such a day.
The winter's heavy carapace
snaps ice-tight,
squeezing
her hands warm
with a longing,
she thinks,
she can explain.
Previosly published in Quills Canadian Poetry Magazine
Winter 2005 issue
