She was someone I could only wish to be
But she was torn apart
By things on the inside you could not see
Things that should not have happened began to start.
It was her only way to escape
Well at least that's what she thought.
The alcohol was her drape.
All her problems were behind it, hidden and caught.
She was addicted,
Too ashamed to reach out for aid.
Maybe she feared that from our family she'd be evicted.
But her bed was already made.
It was too late.
She had done this to herself.
Now for her only heaven waits.
All I have left of her is the picture on my shelf.
If only she had known,
There are people who could have helped.
She wasn't alone.
There is nothing I wouldn't have traded.
Just to keep her here.
It wasn't her time to go.
I have shed many tears.
From her mistakes I have learned and I now know.
It's a shame I had to learn this way.
But my memories of her will live on for eternity.
