Painted Canvas

She paints India red
under golden patterned saris
walking to the well
over sand dunes swelling like a woman's breast.
Shades of soft orchre stretch for miles,
baby panthers dance excited in her eyes,
ankles like fine china step towards the future.
Proud and hopeful - hopeful and proud,
her belly swollen like a full moon.
She drinks from a river of baby dreams,
thinks of her husband's arms wrapping her
in the safety of Saturn's ring,
her eyes a painted canvas of their silken love.
She fills her pitcher,
her thirst for the future quenched with new dreams
to be born.
