First Place Winner: Kaitlyn Placsko

Public Washroom

Quiet

   clean, nice paint job

not like it isn't pretty

    but so quiet

Resting, breathing

    clean foreign bathroom smell

Feels like night like streetlights like

cool night in Vancouver young and

    walking with parents

"old" enough to feel

"young" enough not to know

everything that goes on in Vancouver at night

                                     (' s winter break)

learnt that can't last forever

Water pushing out of the

tap with more force than necessary

Soap smells Kimberly-Clarky

Bubbles of waiting at the office

for my mom to finish work

    foam up and pop

    before I've noticed them

Water's too hot

Waste a wad of brown

   paper towel softer than

   the stuff at (elementary) school

that tears (back then) at my runny nose

            I've forgotten kleenex
