Third Place Winner: Sarena Strachan

Running On Empty

I overate
Your sharp expressions
You were never aware you made
In our adventures through
Unexplored hearts
And virgin places.

In my own adventures,
Stumbling upon
True happiness
In the folds of your clothing
And the meaning of life
In the fine points of your hair
Which I could make stand on end
With the flick of a tongue.

My back remembers
Your slow morning kisses
When she was bare
And smooth and curved
And just blue in the windows light.
You'd tuck me into these bed sheets
Now cold and wrinkled
Now creases missing true happiness
without you But filled with your fumes,
They are all I'm still running on.

And this rain
Has been going for five days now
I'm beginning to think
It's all that you've left behind
