Basic Chapbook Design and Marketing

Be your own publisher.  Join the ranks of literary giants like Hunter S. Thompson, and Ray Bradbury and learn how to create a ?chapbook? (your very own professional-looking published booklet) step-by-step, from editing through basic graphic design, right through to distribution.   This unique, hands-on workshop starts by getting each participant to assemble their own text book!

We go on to:

look at the benefits and pitfalls of self-publishing!

offer various modern and rare examples of this ancient type of publication!

give you tips for marketing and publicizing your book on a shoestring budget!

A basic knowledge of computers and word processing programs like Microsoft Word is required.

Reference material provided.

Facilitated by poet, performer, and long-time graphic designer, S.R. Duncan.

Words on Robson Poetry Contest

Come down to The Summer Dream Reading Festival on July 23, 2005 to enter Pandora's Collective's newest poetry contest, Words on Robson.

Guidelines:

(These guidelines are very different from our regular contest guidelines. Please read them.)

All poems must be original and previously unpublished. Submissions will not be blind so please add your name, address, telephone number and/or email address to the poem/poems submitted. The entry fee is $5 per poem. We will accept cash or cheque (made out to Pandora’s Collective). Drop of your poems and entry fees to the Pandora's Collective tent the day of the festival (July 23, 2005, UBC Robson Square, 800 Robson Street). Fifty percent of the contest money generated will go towards the top five winners. Poems can be of any theme or form. Along with cash prizes the winning poems will also be published on our web site. All rights return to the poet after publication.

Write your poem on the spot or bring one from home:

We will have a poetry table complete with paper, pens and writing prompts for those who wish to test their imaginations and get their hands dirty with a little poetry. See what you can whip up.
