Strathcona Elamentary School hosted a wonderful literary festival on April 6, 2003.
The following poems are all group poems created by the children on that very special day.
The World Through Books
The world has water
that make up oceans
and the world has food
and land that make up countries.
The world has libraries,
the libraries have books, computers
and videos
and chairs and tables,
helping us to get better at our
reading.
Books give us ideas and teach us
about art.
You can read quietly and be in a play
a bout a book.
They teach us about planets and peace
and other countries, where it is
daytime here
and there it is night time.
We all wish we had a world and the
world has come
to us through books.

Shells
Shells are on the ocean shore
and in the sand.
They're hollow
and on the beach,
you can play with them
pick them and hear them.
They sound like the ocean
they look like rolled up worms
and snakes and a round white ball.
Some creatures live inside the shells
and they are are like treasures.
Sometimes they are dirty,
sometimes swirly.
Some are weird and sticky and smelly,
shiny, and slimy and gross.
Shells are wonderful, pretty and old.

A Dragon's World
A dragon is a living fireplace
that can roast your marshmallows.
They can burn whole buildings
and fly around the world in one
second.
A dragon can make popcorn
at an overnight.
Their stomachs can grow to be
fourteen bears put together.
Sometimes when they drink water
they run out of fire
and they grow so fat they grow out of
their cages.
And that's the end of the pages.

The World
The world is good
it gives us homes and oxygen
and places to rest, water, open
spaces.
There is lots of peace
and we live in the world.
We Are Canadian!
We make lots of friends from
different places
around the world.
We have delicious food,
we have all the water we need,
we get to go to school,
we get homework,
we get to make friends,
we get to learn which is education,
we get to drive a car when we are
sixteen,
we get to play with our families,
to study, play games, write tests,
improve things.
We recycle, share, don't litter
to keep our world clean.
We can't live in a better place.
We don't wan t a bad environment for
the animals.
If your place was covered with junk
you couldn't get in the door.
And don't pollute the water!
Those are the reasons why the world
is good.
