Weeknights
Two young guys, waiting under a tree,
shoelaces untied, pants hanging from hips.
Dressed in wife-beaters, their shoulders
in the branches of streetlight, are bare
as bone. It's the fascination
with something unfinished
that makes you look; of skin
drawn back from a tooth that dares you
to smooth out the stubborn corners, questions
curled in their lips. The answers
of their cigarettes burning holes
in the night.
