Word Vancouver and Pandora's Collective are pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Pandora’s Collective Literary Awards
The Pandora’s Collective Literary Awards are presented to those who by their example and hard work continue to maintain and foster the Vancouver literary community. In 2015, Pandora’s Collective and Word Vancouver announced their partnership in producing the awards and are pleased to produce the awards for a second year as part of the Word Vancouver festival in 2016. Pandora’s Collective Literary Awards were founded in 2010.
This year's awards recipients (see list below) will be honoured at a special Gala to be held on Saturday, September 24 at CBC Studio 700, 700 Hamilton St., 7 p.m. Festivities will include a cash bar and silent auction. Admission is free. The event will be hosted by Sean Cranbury, a previous recipient of a Pandora’s Collective Award, and host of Books on the Radio and Real Vancouver Writers' Series.
2016 recipients of the Pandora’s Collective Literary Awards are:
The Pandora's Collective Distinctive Body of Work Award is awarded annually in recognition of an author's literary achievements. This award is in recognition of their distinguished contribution to the literary community through their work and their example.This year's recipient is poet, bill bissett. Presenter: Karl Siegler.
The Pandora's Collective Organizer/Promoter Award is given to an individual who has put herself/himself forward to help organize literary events, ongoing or special events; someone who has over the last year helped give space to many writers whether they are new or established. This year's recipient is Vancouver Writers Fest artistic director, Hal Wake. Presenter: Chris Gilpin.
The Pandora’s Collective BC Writer Mentor Award goes to an individual who has taken the time to help foster other writers, giving them feedback and support over and above what may be expected. This year's recipient is poet, memoirist, and teacher, Kate Braid. Presenter: Rob Taylor.
The Pandora's Collective Publisher's Award goes to those publishers who keep getting the word out – your words. Where would we be without the publishers? This year's recipient is David Zieroth’s Alfred Gustav Press. Presenter: Meg Stainsby.
The Pandora's Collective Citizenship Award recognizes an individual who Pandora’s Collective feels has excelled in his or her support of writers within our community. This year's recipient is poet, creative writer, public speaker, community activist, management consultant, and energetic volunteer, Ashok Bhargava. Presenter: Janet Kvammen.
The evening will also feature music by Franki Lemon. Awards given to each recipient are created by artist Judith Atkinson. Sponsor: Spud.ca
Pandora's Collective Literary Awards Gala

The Pandora’s Collective Literary Awards Gala are part of Word Vancouver, Western Canada’s largest celebration of literacy and reading. Held during the last week of September at various venues throughout the city, the festival promotes books and authors with free exhibits, performances, and hands‐on activities for a wide range of ages and interests.
Programmed authors for 2016 include: Caroline Adderson, Tony Cliff, Jennifer Croll, Ujjal Dosanjh, Faith Erin Hicks, Billie Livingston, Bif Naked, Jen Sookfong Lee, Yasuo Thanh, Lynn Johnston, Garry Gottfriedson, Anosh Irani, Jordan Stratford, bill bissett, Charles Demers, Paul Yee, and many more! Free events will take place at various venues Sept. 21 to 25. The big festival day happens on the 25th in and around the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Come hear musical performances, free readings and panel discussions, and take part in free writing workshops.
Canadian authors and book, magazine, and comics exhibitors are all gathered to share a passion for the written word. Fun for literature and literacy lovers of any age!
