Place Winner: Shriya Deshmukh
The whole world's friend [except cats]!
His beautiful coat of brown and white, warm always to my hand,
His graceful walk, [mind you he does wobble at times],
Swishing his hips like a lion,
Who sniffs the ground and walks at the same time,
His eyes that are black or brown in light,
Little triangular worry corners shaded by whiskers or eyebrows,
His cute little ears flop all the time,
His tail can sweep a coffee table of its contents in two swipes,
But his mouth is the best "cause" it expresses all,
A curve in his mouth, a mischievous look,
A pitiful whine, "oh, give me some food",
A rise to his mouth "I'm going to snap",
Those teeth that hurt yet seldom draw blood,
Meant in playful play, what can you say?
Knowing there lies inside, a golden if not a strong metal heart,
Yes, of course, your patience snaps,
A thin cord severed almost in half,
But is not forgiveness the key, for I guarantee,
That you shall not stay angry for more than a minute or so,
His subdued expression, his wagging tail,
His happiness on the stake,
Making you guilty of a crime you unintentionally committed,
Of loving and caring for a creature who can aptly be described as,
THE MASTER OF MAHEM!!
A new chapter, for I remember, the day he got loose,
Oh king of calamities, death by cars,
He saw a doggie-friend and managed, oh headache's of terror,
To loosen the annoying leash which is a necessity,
He ran across the road, I ran too,
Thankful that there were no cars, I caught him!
I dragged him; I shouted, I screamed, all unfortunately to no avail,
He bit me, scratched me, kicked me, until I started crying,
And guess what, he stopped and seemed to understand,
Walking almost as if he had surrendered,
But "please stop crying!"
Now I forgive him, knowing quite well that he would do it again,
And yet I would love him, for is he not man's best friend?
And don't we all get into trouble now and then?
